At Brooklet Community Church, we are committed to the historic Christian faith as expressed in the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed. We are rooted in the Wesleyan tradition, holding to the authority of Scripture, the necessity of grace, and the call to personal and social holiness. This Statement of Belief reflects our desire to be theologically clear, biblically grounded, and spiritually faithful as we live out the gospel in our time. We believe doctrine shapes both what we believe and how we live, and it is worth holding with both conviction and care. This statement serves to anchor our church around our beliefs and guide us as a compass for our lifelong journey with God. The Holy Trinity: We believe in the one true, holy and living God, who is Creator and Preserver of all things visible and invisible, infinite in power, wisdom, justice, goodness and love, and rules with gracious regard for the well-being and salvation of all people, eternally existing in three persons as the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, distinct but inseparable, eternally one in substance and power.

God the Father: We believe in God the Father, everlasting Creator of heaven and earth, the Source of all that exists, visible or invisible, mighty in power, full of justice and mercy, overflowing with love.

Jesus Christ: We believe in Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, in whom the divine and human natures are perfectly and inseparably united, fully God and fully man. He was born of the Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit, and being in very nature God made himself nothing, by taking the very nature of a servant. He lived, suffered and died on the cross. He was buried; on the third day He rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will return. Through all this, He is making known God’s love for all the world and assurance of eternal life for all who believe. 

The Holy Spirit: We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity and of the same essential nature, who draws people to Christ, and leads people through faithful response to the gospel and into the fellowship of the Church, and who comforts, sustains, and empowers the faithful and guides them into all truth.

The Sacraments: We believe the Sacraments are means of grace by which God works invisibly in us, reviving, strengthening, and confirming our faith, as we remember and experience God’s love for us. Jesus emphasized both sacraments during his earthly ministry, and historically most Christian traditions have affirmed their importance. We affirm two Sacraments: Baptism and Communion. 

Baptism: We believe Baptism signifies entrance into the household of faith and is a symbol of repentance and inner cleansing from sin, a representation of the new birth in Christ Jesus and a mark of Christian discipleship. We believe children are under the atonement of Christ and as heirs of the Kingdom of God are acceptable subjects for Christian Baptism. Children of believing parents through Baptism become the special responsibility of the Church. They should be nurtured and led to personal acceptance of Christ, and by profession of faith confirm their Baptism.

The Lord’s Supper: We believe that communion is a means of grace where Christ is truly present, nourishing us through the Spirit and drawing us deeper into God’s love. It is not just a memorial of Christ’s death but also a living encounter with the resurrected Lord. The Lord’s Supper is a foretaste of the heavenly banquet, a sign of the coming New Creation when God’s love and justice will fully reign. Every time we come to the table, we participate in the “already” of God’s kingdom breaking into the “not yet” of our world. This meal forms us as a community shaped by the future, called to live now in the light of God’s promised renewal. Communion empowers us for mission, embodying the hope that God will ultimately reconcile and restore all things. In keeping with the historic Wesleyan tradition of the open table, we invite and encourage all people, regardless of church membership or background, to share in this meal of grace.

Saving Grace and New Life: We believe God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself. The offering Christ freely made on the cross is the perfect and sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the whole world, redeeming humanity from all sin, so that no other satisfaction is required. We believe we are never considered righteous before God through our works, but that repentant sinners are justified before God only by faith in and the faithfulness of Jesus Christ. Repentance is not to be denied to those who fall into sin after justification. We are made new through Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, and experience newness of life.

Lived-out Faith: We believe we are created in Christ Jesus to do good works, that is to faithfully respond to God’s grace in our lives. We believe that good works are the necessary fruits of faith, made possible through the sanctifying grace present and active in our lives. Our loving response does not have the power to remove our sins or justify us before God. However, we believe that our right actions are pleasing and acceptable to God in Christ, spring from a true and living faith, and make our faith evident. Because of this, we believe the Christian life is also a life of holiness. By the Spirit’s sanctifying grace, we are continually formed in love for God and neighbor, so that holiness of heart and life becomes the mark of Christian maturity.
